Dolphins are found in various places all over the world.  Most are found far out to sea, while others inhabit the waters much closer to a harbor, or just to land.  Most types of dolphins prefer warm waters, but there are the selected few that prefer and have adapted to colder water.

The Long-Snouted Spinner Dolphin is found almost everywhere in the world, as long as the water is warm.  They are mostly spotted far out to sea, but on occasion, you might see one close to shore.  They are widespread in tropical and warm temperate waters from the Atlantic to the Pacific and Indian oceans.  They are often found in the company of other species of dolphins.  You can always tell its a Long-Snouted Spinner Dolphin by the way it jumps like a corkscrew coming out of the water.  For that trait, it happens to be on e of my favorite types of dolphins.

The Dolphin to the right is a Pantropical Spotted Dolphin with a group of other different types of dolphins.  The Pantropical Spotted Dolphin is found in warm waters all over the world.

Bottlenose Dolphins are one of the most adaptable dolphins.  They can live in shallow-waters, or further out to sea.  The Bottlenose Dolphins found closer to shore tend to be smaller than the ones offshore.  They can live in either warm or cool waters all over the world.  They are usually close to coasts though.

Striped Dolphins are highly sociable animals.  They can be found in pelagic tropical, subtropical and warm temperature waters of the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian oceans, and the Mediterranean Sea.  This specific type of dolphin prefers areas where surface water temperatures are highly variable.

The Dusky Dolphin is a lot like its relative the Peale's Dolphin.  They are both found fairly close to shore in cool temperate waters of the Southern Hemisphere though it has a far more widespread distribution.

The common dolphin is one of the most widespread and abundant small cetaceans and inhabits virtually all tropical and warm temperate seas from the Mediterranean and Black Sea to the equatorial Pacific, Indian and Atlantic Oceans.
