MEDICINE AND DISEASE

There are several sicknesses that dogs can get that are also harmful to humans and can kill both, some of these are...

Heart Worm- occurs when worms enter the heart, medicine should be taken about every month in every dog to prevent this.

Leptospirosis-Caused by either of two microorganisms.  Can be spread by bacteria shed in urine, street lamps usually have serious sign of infection.  One form is generally caught from rats, and under the name Weil's disease, can affect humans. (damages kidney and liver)

Roundworm (Toxocara Canis)- the common roundworm which can be spread if a dog has this, the results can be extremely dangerous

Viral Hepatitis- can cause damage to liver, kidneys, and eyes, maybe respitory infection.

Canine Parvo Virus-Commonly found in australia and canada in the 1970's, Has two forms- myocaditis which means inflamation of the heart, and in young pups severe cases of inflammation of the stomach and intestineshas been found.

If you are having trouble giving your dog its pills/medicine just follow these steps...

 1. Put the pill in the dogs mouth.  MAKE SURE that the pill isn't hidden in its mouth, the dog will spit it out later!!

 2. Then rub the dogs chin.  This helps to make the dog swallow it.

TIP:: Some people hide the medicine in a treat like cheese.

GROOMING

Don't forget the Lhasa also needs to be seen by a groomer at least once a month but MUST be brushed everyday if you choose to keep the coat long.  If you don't choose to keep the coat long, you should still brush it a lot, especially if the coat starts to grow longer again.

BATHING

Every dog needs to be consistently bathed.  I suggest either a groomer, or if you bathe it by yourself to use puppy shampoo.  Puppy shampoo is kind of like baby shampoo, if it gets in their eyes it wont sting, but still try not to get it in their eyes, if you get too much in there it can damage their eyes.

Healthy Lhasa pups should stay with their parents for their first couple of weeks.  These puppys are about 4 or 5 weeks old.
