Shih Tzus as show dogs are magnificent. You will want to remember that dogs are animals not trophies.
Shih Tzus are very expensive and time consuming. The dog needs to be brushed at least everyday. Also posture must be perfect for the show so points aren't taken off. Dogs also must walk next to the owner in the walk around part of the show.
When grooming the dog you must clip the nails weekly so they don't curl under. When brushing your dog you must first be firm so the dog can not wiggle out of your arms. This way you can make sure the undercoat is mat free. Start by brushing the hair back with a pin brush. Make sure you don't tug or pull the hair. In reality you are just pushing the hair back so you can comb it. Then spray the coat with a mixture 1 part cream rinse and 8 parts water. When you start brushing the dog you will brush section by section. Start at the front and work your way back.
Before you begin bathing your dog, you must remember to brush the dog thoroughly. So the dog does not slip and fall where you are bathing them put a rubber mat down. When drying the dog remember to pat the dog with the towel and not rub.
