Chris Seiffert
The setter, Chris Seiffert has a lot to be thankful for. The former Long Beach State All-American recorded six blocks and had the USA hitting in a 3-1 victory over France in the championship match.
"Chris is rock solid. our offense improved with every match." says Coach Nieves. Chris has a lot to look forward to in the future and leading the USA's World University Games team to the gold medal in Beijing and China in mid-August.

Curt Toppel
Outside hitter, Curt Toppel, is a junior at Stanford. During the match against Russia, Toppel had 17 kills and a stunning 3-0 win over Russia. Then against France, Toppel had 20 kills.
"Curt took most of our trouble swings and he just dominated the Russian blockers. He hit over .500 against the biggest block in the tournament. It was a great performance." says Nieves.

*The following quotes are from certain players who are giving their opinions on the change of normal scoring to rally scoring.*

Liz Masakayan
"It wasn't given a sufficient amount of time to test, so we didn't know what was going to happen. The purpose of this rule change is to increase rallies, but my gut feeling is that having a smaller court will not necessarily accomplish this goal. My guess is that since shots have to be much more precise now, people may choose to hit more. The could mean fewer rallies and less exciting rallies since we won't be seeing a lot of players running down balls. We may also see easier serves, which means it will be easier to sideout. End of Rally!"

Dain Blanton
"It's going to become a blockers' game because the block will be able to take up a lot of the court. That's what I foresee happening. Now, the blocker will have less area to cover, so they're going to be more effectice. Obviously, the good defenders are going to be even better. They're going to have less ground to cover. I think the attack is going to become more presise. You'll have no room for error when your're attacking. So the set is going to be cruicial."

Karch Kiraly
"The long rally, the few that there are, are when the crowd really gets excited. But he and I and anybody else can conjecture all we want as to what this is going to do, and nobody really knows. And that's my biggest problem with it. When you consider change after change after change, I worry that it send out a possible signal that this game is heavily flawed and needs major changes. If it's such a massive success, why does it need a massive change like this? I hate to do a whole lot of tinkering. I know everybody has great intentions."

Holly McPeak
"It's going to tak a lot of different skills out of the game, and I think that's a shame. Serving is almost a non-factor now. If you're going to go backj and bomb jump serves, it's a pretty easy pass. So really, serving and scoring points off your serve is not going to be a big factor anymore. A lot of people are saying,' this is a big girls game'. You know what? A lot of the lesser-skilled big girls can't cover the big court very well, because they're not as quick. To me, that's a shame."
