When you feed your puppy, you should be sure to use the same food that the breeder used because it can cause stress for the puppy.  Also, try to feed the puppy at the same time your breeder did.  If this is inconvenient, slowly change the time to a more convenient time.  Lastly, never bother your dog when it is eating.  It may act unpredictably.
Like all dogs, Golden Retrievers need rest.  When resting, you should not disturb them because their reactions are unpredictable.  Their "bed" should not be moved and the dog should have his/her own territory to rest in.  Even though a new puppy is exciting and you want to play all day with him/her, you must give him/her time to rest.  Remember, they are just a puppy.
	One of the most important thing to know about a Golden Retriever, or any dog, is to carry or lift him/her.  If this is not known in your family, it may cause pain or even injury when it is carried incorrectly.  To carry a puppy correctly, you must put one hand under the puppy's chest and one hand to support the rear and hind legs.  Any other way will hurt the puppy.  The only time you should lift or carry an adult dog is when he or she is sick or injured.  To do so, you must place both of your arms between the dog's four legs and lift.  Always use a muzzle because the pain may startle the dog and may force him to act unpredictably.
Treats can be used in many different ways.  Treats can be used when a puppy or dog does something good such as not making a mess when you were gone.  Also, they deserve a treat during training to teach them right from wrong.  They can also be used for fun, whenever you just have fun with your dog and tell him/her to sit, lay down, roll over...
