| Ray Bourque grew up in Canada. He always wanted to play hockey because of what neighborhood he grew up in. The neighborhood he grew up in all the kids did was play hockey. They would pray for snow days so they could go out to the pond and play hockey with the older kids. Ray was one of the best when they played he was even sometimes chosen to play on the older kids team. He was the captain of his hockey team when he was older. Now he is premier player in the NHL |

He was drafted into the league in 1979-1980 by the Boston Bruins. He played for them pretty much his entire NHL career. He became the captain of the team in 1987-1988. He stayed captain for the remainder of the time he played in Boston. When the 1999-2000 season came along Boston was struggling and wasn't going to make the playoffs. So since it might be Ray's last year in the NHL he was traded at the trade deadline to the Colorado Avalanche. |
| When he got to the Avalanche they were greatly thankful of the help he provided to them. He came in to Colorado and everyone there accepted him like he played for them his entire career. That year the Avalanche made it to the playoffs and gave Ray Bourque his final hope of winning his only Stanley Cup. They did well in the 1st 2 rounds of the playoffs. Ran into a little trouble in the conference finals but went to the Stanley Cup finals and won him his first and only Cup. When they presented the team with the cup the captain is supposed to go up and get it but instead of Joe Sakic getting it they let Ray Bourque get it and he held it first. |

After that season Ray Bourque retired after 22 years in the NHL. He went out as one of the best defensemen who ever played the game. He had many problems and successes in his many years and so we said good-bye to one of the greatest defensemen in NHL history. He started his saga with a bang and ended it with one 2. He ended it with a Stanley Cup which is pretty much the best way you can end it. So that concludes his life and career. |
