Cynthia Cooper: Two-time WNBA MVP Cynthia Cooper made her coaching debut last season. She retired after the 2000 season and took the coaching job in Phoenix. As a player, she played four years for the Houston Comets leading them to the championship every year and capturing a victory every time. She was named MVP of the Championship all four years. Cooper, a former guard, earned All-WNBA First Team honors in each of her four seasons and was selected for the WNBA All-Star Team all four years. She's the WNBA's all-time leading scorer and the Comet's all-time leader in points scored, scoring average, free throw percentage, assists and minutes played. She led the WNBA in scoring from 1997-1999 and was the first player in WNBA history to reach 300, 400, 500, 1000, 2000, and 2500-point plateaus. She started every game she played and missed only two games in her career. Before she joined the WNBA on January 22, 1997, she played overseas from 1986-1997. She played for Spain and Italy and was the leading scorer eight times in eleven seasons. She was also on the 1992 bronze-medal-winning U.S. Olympic Team and the 1988 gold-medal-winning Olympic Team. She went to the University of Southern California and won two NCAA championships in 1983 and 1984. She led her team to three Final Four appearances in her four years of collage. She currently ranks 8th on USC's all-time scoring list, 5th in assists and 3rd in steals. Not only is she a great ball-player, but she is also a writer. She has written and autobiography titled: "She Got Game". She also released in 2001 "Reflections", a collection of her poems. Currently she is the Chief Executive Officer of Cooper-Metoyer Communications. She has her own shoe with NIKE called Air C14. She is currently living in Texas with her son Tyquon, and her four nieces and nephews.

#11 Teresa Weatherspoon Teresa Weatherspoon was born on December 8, 1965. This 5-8 161 pound guard attended Louisiana University. She is the Louisiana Lady Techsters' career leader in assists (958) and steals (411), adding 1,087 career points and 533 rebounds. She made two trips to the NCAA finals, winning and NCAA championship in 1988, and was named to the 1987 and 1988 All-Final Four Team. She was the 1988 Wade Trophy Winner, Louisiana State Player of the Year and Broderick Cup Winner. She was also named to the NCAA Women's Basketball Team of the Decade for the 1980's. She won three gold medals in the 1986 World Championship, 1986 Goodwill Games, and at the 1987 World University Games. She won gold (1988) and bronze (1992) medals as a member of the U.S. Olympic Team. She has also played overseas in Busto, Magenta, and Como. She joined the WNBA in 1997 and went to the Championship only to lose to the 4-time champions Houston Comets. Despite the lose, she was named the WNBA Defensive Player of the Year. She led the WNBA in steals in 1997 and 1998. In 1998, she was named the WNBA Defensive Player of the Year again. In 2000, she was named starting point guard to the All-Star Game. She was also named to the All-WNBA Team for the 3rd time in her career. Her nickname is "Spoon". She has two brothers and three sisters. Her favorite book is the bible. Her favorite singer is Luther Vandross. She likes to play tennis in her free time. She would like to coach at the college or pro level after her playing days are over. |

#9 Lisa Leslie Lisa Leslie was born on July 7th, 1972. This 6-5 center attended USC in collage. In 1989 she was a member of the Junior World Championship team. In 1991, she was a member of the World University Games team and won a gold medal. In 1992, she won a gold medal again as a member of the Jones Cup team. In 1993, she was selected the USA Basketball Player of the Year as a member of the 1993 World Championships Qualifying Team. In 1994, she was on the Goodwill Games team and won a gold medal. She was also on the World Championship Team where she won a bronze medal. In each season of her 4-year collage career, she was named All-Pac-10, making her the only player in Pac-10 history to receive all-conference first team honors four times. She also led the Lady Trojans to the NCAA tournament each season. She was National Player of the Year as a senior and earned All-American honors in 1993 and 1994. She owns Pac-10 records for scoring, rebounds and blocked shots. In 1994-95, she played for Sicilgesso in Italy. She was also a member of the 1996 USA Basketball Women's National Team leading them to an undefeated season. That same year she was also a member of the USA Women's Olympic Team that won the gold medal. In 1997, she joined the WNBA. That year she was named to the All-WNBA First Team. She holds several records in the WNBA currently some which include: rebounds, most points in a game, and blocked shots. She's played in all the All-Star Games. She was named MVP in the 2001 All-Star Game. Last season, she led her team to the WNBA Championship Game and came away with a victory, making the LA Sparks the 2nd team in history to win a WNBA Championship. The other 4 championships belong to the Houston Comets. In her free time, she models, reads, and listens to music. After her playing days are over she plans on modeling more and pursuing a broadcasting career.

Forward for the
Houston Comets:
#22 Sheryl Swoopes Sheryl Swoopes was born on March 25th, 1971. This 6 foot forward attended Texas Tech in collage. She was ranked second in the nation in 1992-93 with a 28.1 ppg. She earned 1993 NCAA Final Four MVP honor after setting an NCAA Championship game record with 47 points in Texas Tech's win over Ohio State by a score of 84-82. Her number 22 was retired by Texas Tech on February 19th, 1994. In 1993, she played for Bari in Italy. She played at the World Championship and the Goodwill Games in 1994. She's also been a member of the USA Women's Basketball Team. She joined the WNBA in 1997. She was named to the All-WNBA First Team in 1998, 1999, and 2000. She also helped the Houston Comets win the championship in 1997, 1998, 1999, and 2000. She was named the 2000 WNBA Defensive Player of the Year and WNBA Most Valuable Player. She has one son named Jordan. She is the first women to have her own Nike basketball shoe named after her: Air Swoopes. When her playing days are over, she'd like to pursue a career in broadcasting. |
