Albino-Any horse that has pink skin and white hair. Some albinos have red eyes. Others have pale blue eyes know as Glass eyes.
Andalusia-A breed of horse that was brought to America from Spain in the 16th century. It is know for its strong build and elegant looks. Andalusia have thick manes and tails and are usually gray or white.
Appaloosa- A breed of horse distinguished by spots. Most often on the hindquarters. Popular for western riding.
Arabian- A breed of horses that originally came from the deserts of the Middle East. Know for its beauty, intelligence, and endurance.
Bay- Horses or ponies with dark brown coats and black points.
Belgian- Type of draft horse that is strong, heavy, and can weigh more than 2,000 pounds. On of the largest breed of horses.
Clydesdale- A heavy, tall draft horse breed from Scotland. Clydesdales are known for the feathery hair on their legs. Long ago, these horses carried knights in armor.
Connemara Pony- Small, strong breed from Ireland that makes an excellent riding pony.
Darley Arabian- one of the very first Arabian horses in history , the Darley Arabian is an ancestor of the present-day Thoroughbred breed.
Eohippus- the very first horse on earth, eohippus lived 40-55 million years ago. Its name means "dawn horse," and at 10-17 inches tall, it was no bigger than a fox.
Friesian- An ancient Dutch breed of horses.
Hanoverian- A large breed of saddle horses particularly good at jumping.
Indian Pony- A small, hardy breed whose ancestors were brought to America from Spain hundreds of years ago.
Irish Hunter- A breed of horse that is half Thoroughbred. Know for its outstanding jumping ability.
Kabardin- A breed of horse from Russia.
Kazakh- A tough, hardy breeds that is approximately 2,000 years old. These horses are from the lower reaches of the Volga River in Russia and are popular with Mongolian riders.
Morgan- This small, hardy breed of horses or pony is the state breed of Vermont. This breed is descended from a stallion called Justin Morgan, born in 1789.
Norwegian Fjord Pony-A large, strong breed from Norway with an unusual mane: the outer hairs are white and the inner hairs are black, so the mane is striped white, black and white.
Oldenburg- Breed of horse originally used to pull carriages, now used as a saddle horse.
Palomino- known as the golden horse. This color breed is identified by it golden coat and white mane and tail.
Pinto- A piebald horse of any breed other than thoroughbred or quarter horse.
Shetland Pony- small ponies that come from Scotland's Shetland islands. Today, Shetland Islands. Today, Shetland are found all over the world.
Thoroughbred- A horse and pony breed know for its speed. It's descended from three Arabian stallions that lived in early 1700s.
