A Summary of the Steelers 2001-2002 Season The Steelers' 2001-2002 season was one their best seasons since their last super bowl season. Their defense was great and their offense was the same. Kordell had a career season and so did Jerome until he got injured. After Jerome got injured Famous Amos and Fu-bad-malafala came on in and kept the running game ranked number one in the NFL. Plaxico took his game to another level with diving and leaping catches and Heinz Ward played that hard nose football while making spectacular catches. The offensive line retained a name as one of the best lines in the league. On the other side of the ball the whole defense played better than they had the previous year. The new acquisitions of Casey Hampton and Kendrell Bell only made the defense better. Jason Gildon had a Pro Bowl season . The only thing the Steelers lacked was special teams, which in the end ruined their chance to get to the super bowl. Kevin Brown did terrible. I don't know if he was just a bad kicker or if the wind at Heinz Field had something to do with it. How humiliating was it when the field goal got blocked and they ran it all the way back a touchdown. If the Steelers do any on the off-season I hope the revamp the special teams. The Steelers should have made it into the super bowl with out any doubt, but the curse that ruined their super bowl dreams in the previous years, came back again. Looking on the upside of things the Steelers ended the season 14 million under the salary cap, which is great. And the Steelers found out that they had more talent on their than they thought. I am excited to see what they will do next year.
