A Summary of the Penguins 2001-2002 Season The Penguins are having a bad year. It was bad from the start with the loss of Martin Straka right at the beginning of the season. They couldn't rebound from that key loss, and their season this year is nowhere close to what they accomplished last season. They have had their good moments, but most of them are bad. They have lost many close games this year in the very end of the last period or in over-time. The Penguins are little bit away from the the 8th playoff spot, which right now is in possession of the Canadians. And with Mario Lemuiex also out for the rest of the year their chances don't look very good. The Penguins just had a bad year. Add in all those injuries and the loss of one of the best players in the league and that equal a losing season. What the Penguins need for next year is a better defense and maybe another big scorer. The Penguins right now need to look into the future and try to find some good talent out there, because in a couple years Mario is going to be gone and a new arena is going to be built, so there goes some money out of the payroll.

for a new arena, they might have to leave Pittsburgh in search of another city that will build them a brand new arena. Although I highly doubt that Mario and his other co-owners of the Penguins will do that. The picture on the the left above the statistics is a picture of the new proposed arena that the Penguins want built. |
