The objective of baseball is to score runs. A run is scores each times a batter crosses home plate. Each run counts as one point and the team with the most points at  the end of the game is the winner. The offensive team is the team batting ,running the bases, and trying to score runs. The defensive team is the team in the field that is trying tostop runs from scoring. They try to stop runs by striking the batter out, geting the batter to hit into a forceplay, groundball, linedrive, or flyball. The teams switch roles when the defensive team gets 3 outs. The game is divided into innings. There are 9 inning in one game including the bottom and top of the inning. That is so each team has a chance to bat and play the field. After the 9 innings the game is over and the team with the most runs wins.
Baseball is played on a diamond shaped field with 4 bases located at each of the 4 corners. The field is divided into 2 sections, the infield and the outfield. The infield is the dirt portion and the outfield is the grass. As i mentioned in the previous pages,  there are 9 players and they are posioned acording to the position that they play.
Umpires run the game and control the game. There are 4 main umpires. They are positoned behind evey base. The most important umpire is the home plate umpire. He calls balls and strikes and makes all the calls that are behind home plate. Each of the field umpires make calls at their base. No player may question the authority of the umpire, if they do so the umpire may throw them out of the game or warn them for future violations. There are 4 main signals the umpire makes. To call a strike the umpire stretches his arm out to his side, points, and yells strike. For a ball he does nothing exept he yells the word ball. To call a batter safe the umpire strethes his arms out to his side and yells the word safe. When the batter is out, the ump. makes a thumbs up and throws the fist over his right shoulder and yells your out very loudly. Finally to call a time out the umpire throws his arms above his head and sreams time out.The umpires rule is final and no one can question his authority.
