In baseball there are 9 main  positions. The 6  positions that are in  the infield are the pitcher, catcher, third basemen, shortstop, second basemen, and the first basemen. Their job is to stop a ground ball from going into the outfield and then trying to make an out. The pitchers job is to throw the ball over the plate and try to make the batter miss it or hit into an out. The catcher's job is to catch the balls the pitcher is throwing and give him signals in which he thinks the batter will miss. Besides the 6 infield positions there are 3 outfield positions. There job is to catch line- drives or long fly- balls that are hit by the batter. They also catch balls that are missed by the infield. The 3 positions are left-center, right-center ,and center field. Those are the nine positions in baseball and their jobs.

There are 6 players in the infield at all times. Each one serves the same purpose but they are located in different places. The first basemen is located about 5 feet to the left of first base. His job along with all the other infielders is to stop any ball that is hit near them from going out into the outfield. He also covers the base when there is a play in the infield is at first or the force play is at first. The second basemen is located between first and second base. His job is to stop any ball and cover second base when the force play or steal is there. The shortstop  is located between third base and second base. His job is to stop any ball that comes his way and cover second base when there is a force play there or a steal. The third basemen is located about 5 feet to the right of third base. His job is to stop any ball his way and to cover the base on a play at third or a force play. He also has to get the ball and make a play if the batter is bunting the ball.

The two most important positions in the infield are the pitcher and the catcher. The pitcher is the most important player on the field. His job is to throw the baseball over home plate to try to strike the batter out or to make him into an out. He stands in the middle of the infield. that is where he pitches the ball to home plate. He stands on a dirt mound. This helps him throw the ball faster and to be more accurate. This is know as the pitches mound. The catcher on the other hand, is positioned behind home plate. His job is to catch the balls the pitcher is throwing. He also gives the pitcher signals in which he think the batter will miss. The pitcher and the catcher work together to try to get the batter out.

There are three outfield positions. They are centerfield, right field, and left field. They are all positioned according  to their name. Their job is to catch any balls the infield misses, but they  also have to catch any long fly balls or line drives that are hit. They play a big role in the game. They have to be alert and ready at all times because the fly balls and line drives are so sharply hit.
