Backstreet Boys' second U.S. (and third global) album, ''Millennium,'' was released worldwide in May 1999. It entered the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart at No. 1 the week of June, 1999, having sold 1,134, copies in its first week of release. That number broke the previous SoundScan record held by Garth Brooks for single-week record sales. On August 12, 1997, Jive records released the Backstreet Boys' U.S. debut album, which included all of the group's international hits plus a few new songs. the album included the hits ''As Long As You Love Me,'' ''I'll Never Break Your Heart,'' and ''All I Have To Give.'' So far, the Backsteert Boys' debut album has sold more than 12 million copies in the United States.

Where did the guys get their name? |
The Backstreet Boys got their name from the name of a popular outdoor market in Orlando, Florida. The members of the Backstreet Boys came up with the groups name while eating at TGI Friday's, where they sat in a booth from which they could see the entrance to Backstreet Market - an Orlando, Florida, flea market. The BSB stared out performing in smaller venues. In 1998 the boys appeared on the TV show "Sabrina the Teenage Witch". In Germany the boys got their first number one record. It took one day for the boys to sell out all of the U.S.A. dates for their tour in the summer of 1999! Backstreet Boys sold out the entire first leg of its ''Into the Millennium'' U.S. tour -53 shows, 765,000 tickets -in one day in August 1999.

The Backstreet Boys' first official show occurred Saturday, May8, 1993, at the Nautilas Theater in Orlando's Sea World amusement park. Among the group's songs was an a cappella version of Shai's 'If I Ever Fall In Love.' ''Millennium'' sold (9,445,732) copies in the top-selling album of the year according to SoundScan.
