Forward

The forward position is were you score. It is also called  striker. There are two basic parts to a forward. They are the wings and the center strikers. The wings stay wide and cross the ball into the middle of the field where the center strikers are. In this position you have to worry about being off sides. That is when you are behind the other team's last players of defense. Sometimes when men score, they lift their shirts over their heads and run with their arms out like they're flying. Other players take off their shirt when they score (Brandi Chastain).

Midfield

The midfield position plays in the middle of the field. They also go back to help the defense and go up to help the offense score as the ball moves around the field. The midfield can be broken into outside midfielders and center midfielders. They work the same way as the offense. The wings stay wide and give the ball to the outside offensive players. The center midfielders stay in the middle and help switch the ball from side to side.

Defense

In a defensive position you guard your goal from being scored on. They play in the back of the field. When you play defense you can "push-up." That means you move up the field to catch the other team's forwards off sides. The general positions for defense are outside defenders, a stopper, and a sweeper. In some games the defense gets all the action if you play a team better than you. In other games the defense gats minimal action if the team you are playing isn't as good as you. As a defender you have to fight to win balls that come near you or come near the other team.

Goalie

As a goalie you are the last line of defense. You are the only chance that the other team won't score if they get a breakaway, an open shot, or a penalty kick. Sometimes your defense has to help you (see below). Playing goalie is one of the hardest positions to play because when your scored on you have to bounce back and not let it get you down. When the ball is at the other end of the field you can push out to the edge of the penalty box. When the other team comes closer you have to move farther back. You have to have quick reflexes and always be moving.
