| The vault
is an event that both men and women do. The apparatus itself is
called the horse. The horse is 5 feet and 4 inches long, and 14
inches wide. The horse is adjustable, and can be moved to be higher
or lower, depending on the type of vault you are doing. The horse is
slightly padded and covered in a non slip material. Vaulting is a
unique event because it is the only one that you do not need a routine
for. Vaulting consists of simply 1 single skill.
To do this skill, you first run at the horse in full speed. Once you reach it you jump onto the springboard and fly onto the horse. You use your arms to push off of the horse onto the other side. Flips and turns are added before your hands hit the horse, and after, to make a harder vault. You get judged on hesitation, body position, landing, and the level of difficulty. |
