| Skateboarding has a long and very interesting history, it has changed with the times, been in and out of style, and has been enjoyed by many people. Skateboarding first came around during the mid 1960's. People didnt know whether to except it or not, they thought it was a run-off of surfing and/or roller skating. When it first started there was no street skating or flip tricks. All skaters used ramps, pools, or half-pipes. The boards had huge wheels and the decks only had a tail and no nose. This was the only type of skating until the ollie came about. The ollie was invented a few years after skating was. It was named after the man who invented it, whose last name was ollie. After this all kinds of tricks were branched off of it. Rodney Mullen, probably the best street skater of all time, invented over fifteen tricks for skating, a few of them are: kickflip, heelflip, 360 flip, casper slide, darkslide, and inward heelflips. The amazing thing is that for how old he is, he is still skating and possibly doing his best. After these tricks came along more and more people got into skating. Small wheels were the new thing because they are better for flipping. Perhaps the biggest change in skating was made by Mike Vallely. He came out with the first deck to have two kicks, a nose and a tail. This immediately took the skating world by storm. This is when it got really popular. Skateparks were being made not only in the US, but all over the world. People started noticing skaters and holding telivised competetions. Throughout the years skateboarding has been in or out, when skateboarding is out its known as being underground. In the past couple years though, skateboarding has been the biggest it ever has. More and more people are getting into it and kids are getting sponsered by local shops and then moving on to the pro's. |
