Real Name- Cornell Hayes Jr.

Born- Austin Texas

After living in Texas her then moved to Spain before ending up in the ghettos of St. Louis, Missouri. He was a good baseball player but instead of going pro, he opted to form the ST. LUNATICS, which consisted of his friends, Kyjaun ( Robert Clevland), City Spud ( Lavell Webb), Big Lee ( Ali Jones), Murphy Lee ( Tohri Harper), and Slow Down ( Corey Edwards). The St. Lunatics enjoyed a local underground hit in 1996 with " Gimme What Ya Got", but despite this success they failed to persuade any major labels to offer them a recording contract..

In 1999 Nelly opted to pursue a solo career and was signed to Universal Records.

His first single hit was Country Grammar, his debut collection. Nelly's song Country Grammar cleverly flipped the melody of the children's song "Down Down Baby".

He's got a style all his own. He is Rapping the blues. He likes to think of my music as a jazz form of Hip-Hop. He claims he does not really even know what he's going to sound like until he hears the beat.

Growing up with his family in one of the nations poorest cities surrounded by vacant lots. condemned building, drugs, and gangs, Hip-Hop and baseball were his way of survival.
