Dre is the chief architect of the west coast gangsta rap. he began his career as a DJ at a Los Angeles dance club called Eve After Dark. The club had a back room with a small four track studio where he together with future N.W.A members Yello, and Lonzo Williams would record demos. The first of these was "Surgery". Surgery was a basic electro track with a chorus of "Calling Dr. Dre to surgery." These nights and sessions at the Eve After Dark taught him the turntable techniques he would later bring to the N.W.A.
| Dre formed the World Wrecking Cru ( a group) at the age pf 17. His solo debut was The Chronic which came out in 1992. The Chronic signaled a change for modern gangsta rappers. the music now took its cue from the funk og Gerorge Clinton and Funkadelic. The Chronic spent 8 months on the Billboards Top 10. |  |
