Aaliyah Dana Haughton died August 25, 2001. Aaliyah was killed in a plane crash along with Gina Smith who was 29 she was Aaliyah's product manager at Blackground Records, Keith Wallace who was 49, Douglas Kratz 28 years old Virgin Records  director of video production, Aaliyah's bodyguard Scott Gallin at age 41,  Aaliyah's person hair stylist Eric Forman who was also 29, hair stylist Anothey Dodd who was 34, and make-up artist Christopher Maldonado who was 32 years old. Also killed in the crash was the planes pilot who was only identified as L. Maradel.

Aaliyah had just completed filming of her video "Rock the Boat", which was directed by Hype Williams in which she took took time off of her promotional tour to shoot. The cause of the plane (the Cessna 402)  crash is still unknown. The authorities suspect engine failure because the plane took off in  good weather conditions. Also it is heard from baggage handlers that the plane was too over loaded with suitcases, yet  was still aloud to depart. 

The Cessna 402 crashed shortly after take off around     6:50PM.  The  plane was said to have crashed exactly 200 feet from the end of the runway. Which killed six of the people instantly and the 3 others died later on from their injuries.
