This unusual breed of dog, works well with people. They are from Germany, and they are known for being a police dog, guiding the blind, and guarding. They do have a history of biting, so firm training should be enforced. German Shepards are strong, agile, well muscled, alert, and full of life.

The ideal German Shepard dog has a double coat of medium length. The outer coat should be dense, and fur is straight, and lying close to the body. The head, including the ears, face, and the legs, and paws, are covered with short fur. Hair on the neck should be longer and thicker, than on the rest of the body.

German Shepards live best in a large apartment, or house with a yard. They are not hypoallergenic, and their average food cost is thirty dollars. These dogs live to be about twelve years old. They are 22 to 26 inches tall, and their weight averages from 70 to 95 pounds.
