Did you ever think of how long make-up has been used or where it originated? Well here are all of you answers and just about everything about the history of make-up!
Make-up or cosmetics has been around for thousands of years. But it was first invented to highlight, not cover up features. Cosmetics came from the Greek word cosmos which means arrangements. Aztecs used a pale yellow face powder to make them look pretty and Egyptians used green eye shadow, eyeliner, and mascara. Another thing that was big in the early centuries was tattoos or henna designs. For many centuries up till the 19th century people used a whitening agent for their face but they didn't know that what they were using was poisonous and killed most of them.

Another thing that was very popular in the olden times was tatoos or henna designs. Even the Egyptians used henna designs for a sign of royalty or high satus.
Red has always been a very popular color, people wold put white powder on their faces then highlight thier lips and cheeks with red, but in 1939 during world war the cosmetic production was nearly stopped in Brittian. But after women started working in factories it gave them enough money to buy alot of cosmetics so the prices became cheaper because of mass production.

Today modern cosmetics are being bought everywhere. They have changed alot from what they used to be. People today buy anywhere from 45 to 66 billion a year.
