Notices of many contests and competitions come through our office such as Future Problem Solving, Knowledge Master, Model UN, and Hometown High Q and Pitt Quiz Bowl. As these become available, information is given to the teachers in certain discipline areas and they, in turn, relay information to the students. Announcements are also made daily when a competition becomes available. When students express an interest, we then assist them in organizing their teams and making whatever arrangements are necessary. When competitions are announced, the students should see Mr. Bruce or Mrs. Romito in the Counseling Office.
Bethel Park High School started participating in this competition held at the University of Pittsburgh in November. Pitt's Model UN was made up of local high school students who assumed the roles of diplomats of the various delegations represented in the UN committees. The participants discussed controversial issues facing the worldwide community within the formal context of a UN simulation. The objective was to arrive at resolutions through cooperation and negotiation, which would then be received in the General Assembly of the UN. |
