Message From The Principal

Dear William Penn Parents and Guardians,

I hope you have had an enjoyable start to the 2011-2012 academic year!  The students entered William Penn on Monday full of excitement and ready to work.  As always, thank you for your continued support of the school and our staff.  Together we can provide our students with an excellent foundation for their futures.

As you are aware, William Penn welcomed quite a few new students this year, as well as some new staff members from around the district.  The new staff includes:

Mrs. Lori Joseph   Grade 1
Miss Kelly Morrow   Grade 2
Miss Milana Capuzzi   Grade 3
Mrs. Veronica Alstad   Music
Miss Michelle McClellan  Enrichment
Also, Mrs. Elissa Sunseri returns to Penn as our Instructional Support Teacher.

Due to the many new faces, and in order to continue to build a strong connection with our families, we will be altering the structure of our Open House this year.

• Our students are welcome to attend the Open House with their parents.  We hope they’ll be excited to show off their school and their classrooms.  Please keep in mind, however, that the students must be accompanied by one of their parents or guardians for the duration of the evening.

• The Open House will be informal in nature.  Our teachers will be available in their classrooms from 6:30-8:00 PM to greet parents and students and provide a preliminary introduction to the year.  I will be allowing some teachers, if they choose, to continue to provide a formal presentation during a portion of the 1.5 hour session.  If any choose to do so, they will let their classroom parents know what time they plan on beginning.

• As an introduction to our PTO and their programming, the Black and Gold Barbeque folks will be here to provide a sampling of their dishes and kick-off our fundraising initiative beginning at 6:00 PM.  Twenty-five percent of all sales benefit the PTO.  The PTO will also be hosting some other informational displays throughout the night, and our friends from Bruster’s Ice Cream will be there as well.

We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday, September 21st, for our Open House!  As always, should you have any questions or concerns throughout the year, please do not hesitate to contact myself, Mrs. Laskey, or any member of our dedicated staff.

Yours in Education,

Jay P. Johnson
