Graduation Requirement: Graduation Projects:

Graduation Project documentation is to be turned into the Online Learning Facilitator by the end of the third nine weeks. If it is not turned in by this time, the student will receive an incomplete on his/her report card for the third nine weeks. If the Graduation Project documentation is not turned in by the end of the school year, the student’s report card will reflect an incomplete for the final year-end grade. Students are not able to register for the next school year with an incomplete on their report card.

In compliance with Pennsylvania School Law, the Bethel Park School District implements graduation projects.  Students must have completed such a project in the 11th or 12th grade to satisfy state law.  The required Graduation Project may be completed either during the school year or during the summer vacation immediately preceding the school year.  The Graduation Project requirement is the responsibility of the student.

Keystone Exams:

The PA Department of Education will require students in graduating classes beginning with 2015 to demonstrate proficiency in Algebra I, Biology, Literature and English Composition.

For classes of 2017 and beyond, it is anticipated that additional requirements for Keystone Exams will be expanded to include the following areas:

  • Geometry
  • Algebra II
  • Chemistry
  • Civics and Government
  • U.S. History
  • World History

As the state finalizes its plan for Keystone exams, future editions of the Program of Studies will be adjusted to reflect those changes. Students are required to come into their respective school building to take the Keystone Exams.

Pennsylvania System of School Assessment

All students, including Bethel Park Online Academy students, are required to demonstrate proficiency in meeting state education standards. It is a graduation requirement that students demonstrate that proficiency on the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) or any equivalent state assessment. Any High School student who scores below proficient on any category of the PSSA or an equivalent state assessment will be required to participate in an online PSSA review course and maintain a portfolio of his/her work demonstrating improvement toward mastery of the state standard(s). Students are required to come into their respective school building to take the PSSA tests.

Advanced Placement Exams:

Students who take an online Advanced Placement course who wish to take the exam will follow the same procedures as students who take AP courses at Bethel Park High School. Students are required to come into their respective school building to take the AP Exams.
