* oTHER DISTRICT RENOVATION PROJECTS
 
During the summer of 2007, the district embarked on several maintenance/construction projects the district is terming "Asset Protection." These projects include:
  • replacing the roofs at Lincoln, Memorial and William Penn (completed);
  • vestibule repair and skylight replacement at IMS and Washington (completed);
  • foundation drain replacement at Memorial, Franklin and Neil Armstrong (completed/landscaping will be performed once the weather improves);
  • repairs to the Memorial Principal’s Office and Franklin Gymnasium Wall (completed);
  • mechanical upgrades at William Penn and electrical repair at Neil Armstrong (completed);
  • removing the modular classrooms at Lincoln, Franklin and Memorial, and creating additions at Lincoln and Memorial, and reconfiguring existing space at Franklin to accommodate the elimination of the modular classrooms.  (completed/landscaping will be performed once the weather improves)

* BPHS HISTORY

Bethel Park High School opened at 309 Church Road in 1959 as a campus-style high school.  Additional buildings were added over the years, and currently, the campus is home to eight buildings (350,000 square feet) on an 80 acre campus.  The last major renovation of the high school was a multi-phase project that was completed in 1996 at a cost of $20 million and included renovations to Buildings 1, 2, 3 and 4; the Media Center and the Physical Education Building.

* district moving forward with option 2--CONSTRUCTION of a new bethel park high school

At its February 28, 2008 Voting Meeting, the Bethel Park Board of School Directors authorized the district's architect, Weber Murphy Fox, to proceed with the Schematic Design Phase of services and the preparation of PlanCon A & B for Option 2, the construction of a new Bethel Park High School. 

On Monday, May 5, the School District's request for a zoning variance for the high school property was denied by the Bethel Park Zoning Hearing Board.   On May 20, the Bethel Park Board of School Directors authorized the Administration to take the necessary and appropriate steps to appeal the decision of the Zoning Hearing Board to the Court of Common Pleas and/or proceed to a reconsideration of the Zoning Hearing Board's decision, and authorized David Toal to represent the School District in this process.  The appeal was filed on Wednesday, June 4, 2008.  A hearing date has not been set.
